‘On a cold rainy day, the Glasgow Botanic Garden greenhouses are a safe haven and can transport you to warmer climes. In the tropical main glasshouse, you can sometimes hear a recording of birds. Garden staff told me this was obtained from a 1987 Glasgow University expedition to Papua New Guinea to obtain plants for the 1988 Glasgow Garden Festival and the Botanic Gardens. They also said the group were held at gunpoint and robbed….allegedly.’
