HANDMADE IN AYR

Handmade in Ayr Market Handmade in Ayr is a market founded to create a platform where independent makers and crafters can showcase their creations. Our regular market events at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum have become a cornerstone of the Ayrshire community, celebrating local craftsmanship and art.

The Handmade in Ayr Story As a glass artist, I find great joy in creating my own work but also recognise the challenges of finding spaces to share and sell handcrafted pieces. This inspired me to establish Handmade in Ayr - not just as a venue for my own work, but as a platform where other Ayrshire artisans could showcase their talent. The market began in 2019 and was originally hosted in The Grain Exchange in Ayr, supported at the time by South Ayrshire Council. In 2022, the market found its new home in The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, with a second art-exclusive event now taking place in The Alloway Village Hall.

Each Handmade in Ayr Market is a testament to the creativity and dedication of our region’s makers, offering visitors a chance to experience the diverse range of crafts that Scotland has to offer.

Featured Artists and Makers Over the years, Handmade in Ayr has hosted numerous talented artists and makers. Here are just a few who have previously exhibited with us:

● Jana Prchalova: A painter and illustrator creating paper mache sculptures that tell whimsical stories. Her work is often inspired by folklore and childhood imagination, bringing a sense of playfulness and nostalgia to her art. Jana's sculptures are known for their intricate details and vibrant personalities, making them a unique addition to any collection.

● Susan Leishman: An artist specialising in Scottish landscapes and beach scenes. She offers originals, prints, and homewares, each capturing the beauty of Scotland's rugged coastlines and countryside. Using a combination of soft textures and bold colours, Susan’s work evokes a deep emotional connection to the natural world, making her pieces beloved by collectors and home decorators alike.

● Bianca O'Neill of Bianca O'Neill Jewellery: A local goldsmith offering sterling silver and gold jewellery and bespoke services based in Troon. Bianca’s designs balance contemporary aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship, ensuring that every piece is both stylish and timeless. Her bespoke service allows customers to collaborate on unique, personal jewellery that tells a story and holds special meaning.

● Leigh Devanny of Stanecastle Candles: Creating cruelty-free, botanical candles and wax melts from her cottage kitchen workshop. Leigh carefully selects natural ingredients to craft beautifully scented, long-lasting candles that bring warmth to any space. Each candle is hand-poured with sustainability in mind, making them a perfect choice for those who value ethical, artisanal home products.

These artists, among many others, contribute to the vibrant atmosphere of our markets, offering visitors a unique shopping experience. Their craftsmanship not only showcases the incredible talent within Ayrshire but also helps to sustain and promote both traditional and contemporary artisan skills.
